IFEA World Festival And Event City Award : IFEA World Festival And Event City Award
6.2 A FESTIVAL AND EVENT SHARED RESOuRCE PROgRAm In line with marketing and promoting Sydney and NSW as Australia’s leading destination for events, Events NSW in conjunction with Tourism NSW and the City of Sydney, have developed a consumer-facing digital events diary. eventssydney.com has been created for our ever-growing community of event-goers, event organisers, venues and people who like to know what’s going on. At any one time the sites publishes information on over 2,200 events throughout the State. They allow visitors to ‘like’ and share events through their chosen social networks and can deliver highly personalised event suggestions determined by how the visitor is browsing the site and the profile they create. Significant work has been undertaken to build important reciprocal web links between eventssydney.com and other key event websites. A pilot project was undertaken in partnership with the Sydney Opera House which once completed, saw all events occurring at the Sydney Opera House automatically feed into and display on eventssydney. com. Since then, partnerships have been formed with the Hilton Hotel Sydney and www.totaltravel.com.au via Yahoo!7 which sees every event that is listed on eventssydney. com display on these partner websites. The Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) is the data source of event, accommodation, attractions and transport information for key tourism websites including www.sydney.com, www.visitnsw.com and www.australia.com. Building a direct link between eventssydney.com and the ATDW has been a key priority for Events NSW and a key component of Events NSW digital strategy. As of July 2011, the work required to create the link has been completed and as a result, every event listed on eventssydney.com is fed through to the ATDW database and displayed on over 65 digital distribution channels. eventssydney.com is the online destination to find out what’s on. With the recent developments in securing key web links, eventssydney.com will increasingly become a pivotal platform for event promotion. It serves as evidence to the diversity of the festivals and events which are held week in and week out in Sydney.
