IFEA World Festival And Event City Award : IFEA World Festival And Event City Award
As well as showcasing the talents of local and international creative industries professionals providing a stage to entertain the public through light art technology, music performances and creative ideas, the festival specifically targets collaborations in the creative industries to increase the offering of projects to the public, whilst providing a platform for international business events. In 2011 business events included AMPlify, CeBIT Australia, Encore Live, Mumbrella360 and SPARC International Lighting Event. In 2011, Vivid Sydney attracted around 400,000 visitors and Sydneysiders, compared to nearly 300,000 in 2010 and around 200,000 in 2009. The festival has been embraced by Sydneysiders as “Sydney’s major festival in winter”, with research showing that already, after just three years, 80 per cent of NSW agree or strongly agree that Vivid Sydney should be a recurring event on our annual calendar. The focal point of Vivid Sydney is the Sydney Opera House featuring the spectacular illumination of the sails, in 2011 featuring 3D mapping projections by French collective SUPERBIEN. The Vivid LIVE music program featured over 30 ticketed events, including a number of Sydney and world exclusive performances from artists such as The Cure, Bat for Lashes, Cut Copy and Spiritualized. In 2011 the festival included more than 40 light installations designed by local and international light artists and designers around Sydney’s iconic harbour precinct. Highlights included large scale and interactive projections on Customs House, the Museum of Contemporary Art and FireDance, the largest and most ambitious live fire show ever produced in Australia. Vivid Sydney also brings together the best local and international creative thinkers to take part on panels, forums, discussions and performances. Celebrating the city’s diverse talents and exploring how to make Sydney a better place for creativity and commence.
