IFEA World Festival And Event City Award : Annual Report
Sydney won the ‘Top Global City’ award at the inaugural 2010 World Festival and Event City Awards hosted by the International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA) in the United States. Sydney was also named the world’s best festival and event city in the ‘over one million population category’. The judges noted Sydney’s impressive achievement in the collaborative approach between the events industry, all levels of government, event proponents and venues in attracting and hosting events. • Conde Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards – world’s number one city for a record breaking 9th year in a row. • 2010 AT Kearney Global Cities Index – ranked one of the top cities in the world in terms of trade, education and culture. • PriceWaterhouseCoopers Cities of Opportunities survey – joint number one globally for arts and entertainment alongside Paris, London, New York. • US Travel & Leisure Magazine 2010 World’s Best Awards – the only Australian city to win a top ten place ranked number six ahead of London, Paris and New York. • US Travel & Leisure Magazine – number one city in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. • Anhold-Gfk Roper City Brands Index – number one among 50 global cities in three out of six categories and ranked second overall, also ranked in the top three cities in the world as a good place to do business, find a job or study. • 2010 Australian Event Awards – Bluesfest Byron Bay won the award for ‘Best Cultural or Arts Event’ and took home the most prestigious prize of the evening, the 2010 ‘Australian Event of the Year’. – As part of Vivid Sydney 2010, Macquarie Visions won two awards, with production team the Electric Canvas winning ‘Best Achievement in Technical Production’ and ‘Best Achievement in Design’. – Australia’s ‘Best New Event’ was awarded to Cambridge Events for Sydney Harbour Island Hopping, part of Crave Sydney International Food Festival. – Australia’s Favourite Event for 2010, with over 60,000 public votes recorded, was Jessica Watson’s Homecoming staged on Sydney Harbour.
